At the end of 1830, there was a famous war between Britain and Chinese. In Chinese history book, it is called “First Opium War”, while British usually call it “First Anglo-Chinese War”. The different calling of this war in these two countries reveals the different meaning of this war to these two countries. To Britain, it is just a way to broaden their worldwide market and establish business relationship with China; but to China, it is a symbol of being insulted and a beginning of being colonized under western countries. The content of this history especially the way to describe it is also very different in history books of these two countries. Chinese history emphasizes the evil purpose of British to initiate this war and the negative effects this war brings to China; but British explain their purpose differently as broadening their market and accelerating the economic development of their country, and they also point out how the victory of this war positively affect the economic development of their country. Therefore, people from these two countries knew a very different history of a same event, as history is written by people who hold different perspectives and have different standpoints.
